Small Business Spotlight - Paper Affair {Part 2}

Here is the second half of my interview with Melissa! Hopefully you will be inspired by the suggestions she offers here and maybe it will help with any Christmas gifts you might need for friends and family. Check our Paper Affair’s website HERE.

Melissa, What is the number one product you sell?

 Our number one product has been our number one product for 10 years in a row.
It is the Karen Adams Desk Calendar.  New designs are released every year by the artist, Karen, a talented Memphis designer.  Our customers wait anxiously each year for the release of the new design!

Is there a product you feel like people should know more about?

 This is a GREAT question. No one has ever asked me this. I had to really think about this one. And I have two answers.

First, if you haven’t heard of Anne Neilson, you are missing out. Anne is a wife, a mother, and an amazing artist known for her oil painting of angels. She has expanded her brand into gorgeous prayer cards, devotional books, stationery and even playing cards decorated with her beautiful angels. Because we carry so many paper products in the stores, you may have missed out seeing Anne’s angels. Next time you are in the store, seek out the NEW Anne Neilson Daily Devotional Book. It has been a dose of comfort to me.

Second, I would say that IF you haven’t tried our Poppy Popcorn brand, then you are missing out.

Because of the safety concerns with Covid, we haven’t offered samples of any of our food items in a while. Because of this, it has been hard for customers to truly appreciate some of the food items that we carry. Poppy makes flavors from dill pickle, to chocolate peanut butter, to our top seller, Salted Caramel. All of them are amazing in their own way. Try a bag of POPPY next time you come into the store.

 Do you have a favorite product in the store?

This is also a GREAT question, but there is no way I can limit it to just one item. So, if I may list a few of my faves: I am obsessed with NEST Amalfi Lemon & Mint candles, Capri Blue Hand Soap, Caryn Lawn bracelets, gold foil initial notepads from Black Ink, and anything by Rifle Paper.

What is the most meaningful gift you have ever been given?

 This one is easy. I turned 50 this year and my employees gave me a beautiful box filled with handwritten notes from most of the important people in my life - my employees, my family, and my friends. It meant a lot to me that they took the time to track down so many people, and then also that those people took the time to write me a note.

There you have it. A little background on the owner of this fantastic small business and hopefully this will inspire anyone who might be thinking about how to have a small business and a family or just give you some fun gift ideas.
