The Importance of the Holy Spirit
The month of October is typically filled with images of ghosts, goblins, witches and evil spirits, so I think there is no better month for us to put the emphasis on learning more about the one and only spirit we should focus on, the Holy Spirit.
While doing some research recently on the Holy Spirit, two different pastors mentioned that as a church, we desperately need to study the Holy Spirit and recognize the importance of the Holy Spirit. It was interesting how each pastor mentioned how often this equally important member of the Trinity is overlooked. Most seminary students and lay people know about the Holy Spirit, say the Holy Spirit’s name in a rote prayer and have the head knowledge of the Holy Spirit, yet the church as a whole lacks the grasp on the actual significance of the Holy Spirit.
God gives us this supernatural resource in the Holy Spirit, and we should really tap into this helper that the Lord provided for us. Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s word; TheHe helps to convict us when we are disobedient, and He helps to direct, guide and teach us.
This month, we will highlight some of the characteristics of the Holy Spirit and how He can help us parent and grandparent the children that He has blessed us with in our lives.
